Sinusoidal Roughness Elements in a Square Cavity

چکیده
Numerical studies were conducted using Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) to study the natural convection in a square cavity in the presence of roughness. An algorithm based on a single relaxation time Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (BGK) model of Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) was developed. Roughness was introduced on both the hot and cold walls in the form of sinusoidal roughness elements. The study was conducted for a Newtonian fluid of Prandtl number (Pr) 1.0. The range of Ra number was explored from 10 to 10 in a laminar region. Thermal and hydrodynamic behavior of fluid was analyzed using a differentially heated square cavity with roughness elements present on both the hot and cold wall. Neumann boundary conditions were introduced on horizontal walls with vertical walls as isothermal. The roughness elements were at the same boundary condition as corresponding walls. Computational algorithm was validated against previous benchmark studies performed with different numerical methods, and a good agreement was found to exist. Results indicate that the maximum reduction in the average heat transfer was 16.66 percent at Ra number 10. Keywords—Lattice Boltzmann Method Natural convection,

Effects of Roughness Elements on Heat Transfer during Natural Convection
The present study focused on the investigation of the effects of roughness elements on heat transfer during natural convection in a rectangular cavity using numerical technique. Roughness elements were introduced on the bottom hot wall with a normalized amplitude (A*/H) of 0.1. Thermal and hydrodynamic behaviors were studied using computational method based on Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). Nu...
متن کاملLattice Boltzmann method for MHD natural convection of CuO/water nanofluid in a wavy-walled cavity with sinusoidal temperature distribution
In this paper, natural convection heat transfer of CuO-water Nanofluid within a wavy-walled cavity and subjected to a uniform magnetic field is examined by adopting the lattice Boltzmann model. The left wavy wall is heated sinusoidal, while the right flat wall is maintained at the constant temperature of Tc. The top and the bottom horizontal walls are smooth and insulated against heat and mass....

A numerical study of the unsteady mixed convection heat transfer characteristics of an Ag–water nanofluid confined within a square shape lid-driven cavity has been carried out. The Galerkin weighted residual of the finite element method has been employed to investigate the effects of the periodicity of sinusoidal boundary condition for a wide range of Grashof numbers (Gr) (105 to 107) with the ...

Numerical study on the effect of inclination angle with sinusoidal heating on top moving lid in two-dimensional square cavity is investigated. The top lid is heated sinusoidally while the bottom wall is maintained at cold temperature. The vertical walls are insulated and the cavity is filled with water. Finite volume method and SIMPLE algorithm are employed to solve the dimensionless governing ...
متن کاملInfluence of Surface Roughness Scattering on Spin Lifetime in Silicon
Silicon is an ideal material for spintronic applications [1] due to long spin lifetime, however, considerable spin relaxation in gated silicon structures was experimentally observed [2]. Surface roughness scattering determines the transport in the channel at high carrier concentration in thin silicon films [3]. Here we investigate the spin relaxation due to surface roughness. The surface roughn...
